Guan,

When you are trailing at snooker and you end up potting the final balls to tie, how come the other player (not at the table) wins the frame?

No re-spot black option?

So the player at the table loses - erm, someone explain that one to me please!

Johnny you're absolutely bang on right there , for some reason guan decided to give the win to the player with the lowest etr which as you say isn't right nor is it fair.
The correct rule for a tie is a black ball respot and was going to be next on my list of correct rules to ask guan to implement.
In the real game i believe for black ball respot a coin is tossed to see who goes 1st after the black is respotted maybe guan can use the lowest etr idea to decide who goes 1st.

Guan could you please look into doing this you managed to give us F5 for white ball going in and for team play which would have been far more difficult to implement than this rule.

Thanks Johnny and Addie!

In official snooker rules, if the game ends in a tie score, the players lag for break, and winner has option of shooting, or having opponent shoot.

Here is an excerpt of that rule....(bold font is by me, not rules)

"...If the players' scores are equal (tied game) after that scoring, the black is spotted on its original position and the players lag or draw lots for the choice of playing at, or assigning opponent to play at, the black ball with the cue ball in hand within the Half Circle; first score or foul then ends the frame."

GUAN, it may be hard to create the "lag for break", but you could give the ball to the player with the lowest ETR, (or to the player who had the initial break at start of game).
This player could then SHOOT at black, or PRESS F5 and make opponent shoot at black. This would be consistent with the official rules. The game ends when one player makes the black, or if one player fouls. (and, even in ET, it would NOT add much time to the game...)

Guan, I bet this would be EASY for you to add to the game.

Johnny and Addie are right, this is the next improvement to make for Arcade Tribe snooker to be even BETTER. I hope it can be done.

Thanks!

Ike (vanwinkle) ;)

Thanks Guys,

Addie - when you say giving points to player with the lowest ETR that was me, I don't play ETs and never have, well a very small number in pool3d where my rate is 18000 plus.

So it was me with the lowest ETR of 0, my opponent had 13, yet I still lost?

Don't get me wrong it isn't about the win or the rates, I just assumed it would be a re-spotted black if it was a tie, and after all the advantage was with me as I was at the table.

I was 18 behind and potted last 3 balls, so it was definitely a tie, yet game ended with opponent winning the frame.
If you play a game of snooker, and as you all know sometimes it can last quite a long time even just for 1 frame, it's only fair you get a proper outcome at the end of it.

In that case i really don't know on what basis the win is given then, as the player with the lowest etr getting the win seemed the only consistent way.
Win or lose i don't really care but when you lose on a draw it's the most annoying way to lose and time for us to have the correct rule in place.

Guan could we have an answer to this please.

Yes, I'm evaluating it. The drawback is it may make the games longer in ET.

Guan, with only one ball on the table, I don't think the games would be too much longer. There may be some safety shots, yes, but in most cases, I think the players will "go for it" if they have a shot. I understand that time is a factor in ET, but I don't think this improvement would use much time. (tie games don't occur very often anyway) And in the practice rooms, time is not an issue at all.

And, even if the game is a little longer, SO WHAT! This is a SMALL price to pay for getting it right. NOBODY likes to play to a tie....but, when a tie situation occurs, it really is a bad feeling to sit here, and to let "the computer" decide who is the winner. (both players deserve an equal chance) Let us finish the game, according to the rules, to determine the winner.

Snooker rules provide an answer to this situation, and I believe it would be a POSITIVE improvement if you would implement a proper tiebreaker.

Again, I say, Guan, this will improve the Arcade Tribe 3D snooker game.

Thanks again for listening.

I invite ALL other snooker players to weigh in on this....

Thanks Ike,

I think like you that is should be looked into, it won't add too much time onto the end of a frame and will at least ensure a fair and satisfactory outcome.

If anything the fact frames do take some time is more reason to get it right.

Much has already been said on this subject but it seems to me that it all depends upon which rule is to be applied. I have read a number of versions but there doesn't appear to be a standardised one. The coin toss and the drawing of lots are obviously impractical in Arcade which would leave the lagging of the cue ball to determine who should play first. However, the "International Billiards & Snooker Federation" stipulates that the "on" player will continue after the black ball has been respotted, the cue ball being played from within the "D" and played in any direction and that the next score or foul ends the frame.
