Guan, I am taking my comments from another post, and restating them here in the SUGGESTIONS section. On behalf of all (I hope nobody objects lol) the snooker players at Arcade Tribe, we would like to see you program a proper tie-breaker for snooker. You did such a great job with F5 recently, and you now have a chance to make further improvements to the game.

In official snooker rules, if the game ends in a tie score, the the black ball is respotted. The players then lag for break, (or flip a coin etc.). The winner of the lag or coin toss has option of shooting, or having opponent shoot. (from half circle, of course) When black is potted, or when a foul occurs, the tie is broken and the game has a winner.

Here is an excerpt of that rule....(bold font is by me, not rules)

"...If the players' scores are equal (tied game) after that scoring, the black is spotted on its original position and the players lag or draw lots for the choice of playing at, or assigning opponent to play at, the black ball with the cue ball in hand within the Half Circle; first score or foul then ends the frame."

GUAN, it may be hard to create the "lag for break", but you could give the ball to the player who had the initial break at start of the game (or to the player with the lowest ETR).
This player would then have the option to SHOOT at black, or PRESS F5 and make opponent shoot at black. This would be consistent with the official rules. The game ends when one player makes the black, or if one player fouls. (and, even in ET, it would NOT add much time to the game...probably only a couple of turns.)

Guan, you are the MASTER~ :D
I bet this would be EASY for you to add to the game. I bet you could have it done within a day or two, lol. I bet it is easier than F5 for teams,
PLEASE consider adding this feature.

THANKS M8!

Ike (vanwinkle) ;)

Hi Guan -- this would be an excellent choice to improve snooker, and make it more real and MUCH more enjoyable. Please do give it a try.

As for ET time, ties do not happen very often, so it wouldn't be a big problem. ET players would be asked "Do you want to play for the TIE BREAK?" and if both players say "YES" then they play it. If one does not want to, the game is ended and is declared a TIE, and both players move on.

An alternative is tie-breaks could be time-limited, and shot-limited (only in ET of course, not in regular play in other rooms). Not shooting within the shot-clock, as in the regular game, loses the game. Neither player sinking the black within 5 shots or 3 minutes, whichever comes first, ends the game, and a TIE is declared. Please note that adding a maximum number of shots AND a time limit prevents abuse by a player trying to delay the game or something like that, and stops the tie-break from going on and on forever.

This sounds fair to me. It would a huge improvement in the game, with smiles all around. Nothing like happy customers who want to renew their memberships......Discussion anyone???

Thanks Guan.
Thinking again about ETs, maybe the tie-break should be something like 6 shots or 7, not 5. Please ask the snooker players what they think. We don't want ETs going on forever, but we want the tie-break to be fair. And in regular play, not ET, of course there should be no limit to the number of shots.

Rod

Yes I agree with Camdor, the tie breaker should be limited on the number of shots just like the overall ET match.

THANK YOU Guan for accepting this! It will be a great improvement to the game! :D

I agree, in regular play, there should not be a time limit or shot limit. And the first player to shoot (in the tiebreaker) may elect to press F5.

In ET, there should be a limit of turns....this will encourage players to GO FOR IT if they have a chance of potting, rather than playing safe.

Here is another idea....limit turns to 8 or 10, but SHORTEN the time clock! After all, with only one ball to shoot, there's not too much to think about anyway....so make the clock only 25 seconds (or similar). This will also keep the games from taking too much time. (Again, this suggestion is only for ET.....no limits on turns or clock in the regular rooms.)

Thank you again, Guan. When do you think this will be updated?

Ike (vanwinkle) ;)

Can we stick to the rules a tie game means respot no more too it, not asking players do they want to settle for a draw and "both players move on"

Agree Kev, if it's a tie, then there is a tiebreaker. Period.
