Guan, would you consider putting the cross-hairs on the cueball at Arcade Tribe? Like the one at Poolians. Many of us find it very helpful for aiming. (cueball.bmp)

If anyone does not like the idea, maybe you could put it in Preferences, and we could choose to use it or not.

Thanks,

Ike (vanwinkle) ;)

Heres the one I use:

Just right click it and save as cueball.bmp, than replace the plain cueball in the texture folder with this one, make sure the name of the file is cueball.bmp thats it! Its very easy & simple :)

I have a "Measles" cueball if anyones interested  I like using this kind of cueball because it shows what kind of spin I used, its used in real life mainly for the T.V audience for the exact reason as I use it for to see the spin, this one replaces the ball0 file so if anyone wants it just post and I will reply with the texture :D

Just to be on the record here...I made this cueball with black crosshairs for VANWINKLE (Ike), so I don't know how you ever got hold of it. I presume he passed a copy on to you? I don't like those heavy black lines, but he likes it.

Mine, the original, has thin gray lines, and most users have said this is their preference:

I can make the cross hairs any color or width easily, it's all done in Photoshop. Anway, I was the first person to think of this approach to eliminate stray, unintended spin. I made the one with gray cross hairs shown above and have provided it to a few players personally, and most love it. A year or two ago, I posted it here in the forum too, and it was picked up and became popular with various players. Not everyone likes it, of course. They find it distracting. Whatever. Since Guan put crosshairs on the cueball in Poolians he should pay me a royalty for the idea. Oh wait, I forgot to patent the idea ... damn!

Thanks Gregg and Rod. Of course I already have Rod's file, just thought others might like the option of using it as well.

Just curious....I have sent this to two different players, and it did not work...Turns out their original game ball was NOT called " cueball.bmp "
It was simply called " cueball " *no file extension

When we changed the name of Rod's ball to " cueball " it worked fine. Why would this be?

Lastly, it is not well known, but it seems Rod has included a clever virus in his cueball file...
Every time I play him, I end up laughing so hard I can't concentrate on the game. Fiendish, Rod, and unforgivable.

There is no version of the game that doesn't use "cueball.bmp". However, there are millions of low-tech Windows users who have the display of file extensions "turned off" in their Windows Explorer/Folder Options, so they don't see file extensions. They see "cueball" in the list of files in the "texture" folder, instead of the complete filename, "cueball.bmp". But Windows knows it's a bitmap file and it's extension is ".bmp" - the extension is just not being displayed. However, that should make no difference when you try to save it as "cueball.bmp" -- Windows just writes the file and doesn't display the extension ".bmp". Anything else has no basis in fact.
