My bro received a pop-up on his pc saying he'd won a $1000 voucher to Coles or Woolies, his choice, he just had to fill in his details. He filled in his name, address, birthdate then on the next page they asked about his income, what kind of car he drove, where he went on holidays and how much he spent, how much balance was on his credit cards, and dozens of other private info, omg what a scam.

People get these all the time, the bad thing is old people seem to fall for them on a daily basis. Was only the other day, mate of mine wanted me to have a look at his mothers computer that it was running very bad. Went out there comp was full of spyware and she was getting pop ups saying buy this, buy that. What did go and do but pay for software that she didn't even need.
Ok it was only $29 or something but still I firmly believe no matter how much it cost she would have paid it.
Simple fact of the matter is people out there will try anything on the net to make a easy buck.

When my bro asked me about this pop-up I told him to remove it immediately but then he received an email about it saying he'd filled in only part of the form and to get the $1000 voucher he must fill in all of it, so I thought maybe this was an honest bonus for us, but I was wrong, my original thought was correct, it was just a scam to get our info so they could further drive us mad with advertisements.

Yes, old folk are often caught by these spyware and other pop-ups but the reason isn't because they're old, it's because they don't use the net often, I'm old but have used the net for many years and know my way around, net wise I suppose lol, so I don't get caught but I have always been suspicious of these pop-ups saying your computer has umpteen viruses and needs this particular antivirus or spyware to remove it and protect your computer from future infections.

Here's another scam.....I received a telephone call the other day from some girl telling me she was from Windows Support and my pc had been compromised with viruses, I don't know what she was selling, antivirus programs I suppose, but I cut her off quickly because how on earth could she possibly know my pc had viruses, how could she connect my phone number to my pc when my connection is cable not dial up, and why on earth would windows support be calling me to warn of viruses in my pc, no way.

Another thing which burns me is this new mobile phone telemarketing, as I understand it they can sms you an advertisement and YOU PAY FOR IT, if this is true then how can a government allow this? Not only that, I've heard that if you receive one of these telemarketing sms's don't just delete it or you'll discover you've been signed up for all sorts of merchandise and/or memberships, can this be at all possible or is this info just a hoax?

Its true and if you do sign up them any sms you receive from them cost u 2.50 euro thats the price here. And if you erase them then your signed up for good as here the only way you can unsign is text stop to whatever number they provide. Eithher that or ring up your operator and ask them to unsubscribe.
I got stung like that before when trying to download a torrent and it carry's u to a survey where you fill out your name and number then they sms u code so u can download it.

Only a day or 2 later then i kept getting sms from some advertising website and was being charged 2.50 for each sms i receive.
Felt like a right clown as I usually never get caught with that kinda stuff. Never again I put my number into any survey or at least not my own anyway :)

Tha't so wrong though, how can any government allow this, they must first give their permission for this sort of thing to be legal. Everything these days is designed to bleed money out of the ordinary man and most can't afford it, they're struggling to put food on the table. It makes me so mad that there's people in this world who think up these idea for companies to fleece people, what kind of people are these?

The government is more corrupt than these people and no doubt are getting a percentage out of it too. They stick "terms and conditions" in small tiny writing at the bottom of all sorts knowing most people couldn't be arsed reading through it all. They don't care about anyone once they fill there own pockets. Its no surprise the way the world is.

I have to agree with you Kev, governments are decidedly corrupt everywhere, too busy lining their own pockets to worry about the little people, reminds me of the dark ages where kings and noblemen forced peasants to pay unreasonable taxes, I guess we're just mindless peasants to government officials.

And don't you worry I guarantee it will stay like this for many more years to come. A group needs to grow a backbone and stand up to these people and I'm afraid that will never happen

Because they know if they do stand up to them they'll just end up in gaol and their cause will be defeated.
